Caregiving

There are approximately forty million caregivers in the US providing nearly 3.2 trillion dollars of care annually. COVID 19 has unmasked the selflessness of these unsung heroes. Allow me to share the exclusive secrets of those who perform care-partnering at its best!

  1. Delegate, delegate, delegate– Savvy care partners are meticulous. They keep calendars to remind them of appointments. They have updated copies of medical visits. These heavy weights have also mastered the art of self-preservation through purposeful delegation. They use their zone of genius in tasks like finances and medicolegal planning. They solicit the support of co-partners who can assist in other equally important day to day tasks like grocery shopping and custodial care.
  2. KNOWLEDGE is power- One of my favorite New King James Bible verses is Hosea 4:6. People are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Boss caregivers are equipped with resources. They consult with trusted professionals for advice be it legal, medical, etc. They consistently seek opportunities to enhance their skills by participating in workshops and support groups.
  3. ME TIME

Unfortunately, caregivers are not immune to the harsh realities of caregiver fatigue. Caregivers are at higher risk of depression, hypertension, arthritis just to name a few. Their professional and romantic relationships may also deteriorate.

They have unapologetic me time that is respected, hallowed, and sacred. Savvy caregivers have mastered how to couple the joy of caregiving with the beauty of care-living!
